Prof. Dr. Mihalis Panagiotidis is a Senior Scientist and Department Head of Cancer Genetics, Therapeutics & Ultrastructural Pathology as well as a Professor at the Postgraduate School of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology & Genetics in Nicosia, Cyprus. Prior to his current position, he has held academic posts in UK [Northumbria University (2016-2019) and Heriot Watt University (2013-2016)], Greece [University of Ioannina (2012-2013)] and USA [University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (2006-2007) and University of Nevada-Reno (2007-2009)].

His group conducts research in determining the role of epigenetic modifications in modulating apoptotic gene expression in ways compatible with the anti-cancer properties of various naturally-derived phytochemicals and/or other synthetic molecules in the context of i) cancer prevention and/or ii) cancer therapeutics. Furthermore, his group aims to identify and develop epigenetic marks as iii) druggable sites of “targeted” therapeutics as well as iv) biomarkers for nutritional intervention studies. His research has been funded from a number of major national and international funding agencies. He has authored/co-authored more than 135 peer-reviewed publications in various journals in the areas of nutrition & cancer, biochemical/molecular toxicology & nutrition as well as experimental cancer therapeutics.

Moreover, he is a Scientific Advisory Board Member for the International Institute of Anticancer Research and he has been a Marilyn Gentry Fellow of the American Institute for Cancer Research & World Cancer Research Fund. He has supervised a number of BSc, MSc and PhD projects into a successful completion. He has acted as an ad hoc reviewer for more than 50 international peer-reviewed journals while he is on the Editorial Board of several journals that span across different scientific disciplines. He has been invited as a guest speaker in several international conferences and academic institutions around the world while he has also acted as a reviewer for a number of international funding agencies.
