Assoc. prof. Anna Szakiel is the Director of the Institute of Biochemistry and the Head of the Department of Plant Biochemistry at Faculty of Biology of University of Warsaw, Poland.

The main subjects of her scientific interest are pharmacognosy, plant biochemistry and biotechnology, including the elucidation of the structure of the natural compounds occurring in medicinal and edible plants, as well as their biological activities and pharmacological properties. Her teaching areas are General Biochemistry, Biochemistry of Plants, Pharmacognosy, Biochemical Analysis, Plant Metabolic Pathways. She is a coauthor of 60 publications (e.g., in Planta Medica, Journal of Herbal Medicine, Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, Natural Product Research, Phytochemistry Reviews, Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, Metabolomics, Molecules, International Journal of Molecular Sciences, Steroids). She is a member of European Federation for the Science and Technology of Lipids and Polish Botanical Society.
